Building an eCommerce website is like fishing – you need the right bait (products), a sturdy line (website infrastructure), and a good catch (sales) to reel in customers! This is exactly what we helped Weston Developments achieve in their latest website re-design.

Weston Developments

Precision Engineered Fishing Equipment

Weston Developments already had a loyal consumer base, but their website was not up to the task, with poor user experience and limited payment options holding back customer demand. In addition, the web content was inadequate for providing information to visitors and lacked optimization for search engines.

In this blog, we’ll provide a step-by-step guide to how we designed our clients’ new eCommerce website, which has since attracted MORE customers and MORE sales.

STEP 1

Defining The Brand Identity

Good brand design is like a well-tied fly – it attracts the right kind of attention and hooks your audience!

The first step in designing a new eCommerce website is to define the company’s brand identity. The brand identity should be reflected in the overall website design, including logo, colour scheme, typography, and overall visual style. We took the time to define the Weston brand personality, values, and messaging and used this information to guide future website design decisions.

STEP 2

Designing The Online Shop

Your eCommerce website should be like a fishing net, capturing as many sales as possible. And the BEST way to do this is through the design, user experience and checkout flow.

Once we defined Weston’s brand identity, the next step was to design the website based on our visual development and on predicted customer behaviour data. For this project, we chose WooCommerce as our shopping platform of choice because it’s open-source and offers more advanced customisation. Based on our experience, it provides shop owners with a hassle-free selling experience! #notsponsored #wishwewere

STEP 3

Optimise The Website for Mobile Devices

Don’t let your website be a fish out of water. Make sure it’s mobile-friendly and accessible from any device!

Most people are using their mobiles to shop online, so it was essential that Weston’s new website was optimised for mobile devices. We designed a responsive website theme that adjusts to different screen sizes and ensured that the new site was easy to use on a small screen.

STEP 4

Simplify Navigation

We made it easy for customers to find what they’re looking for on Weston’s new site by simplifying navigation. We utilised clear and concise menu labels and ensured that the main categories of the catalogue are easily accessed.

STEP 5

Use High-Quality Images

High-quality product images are vital for eCommerce websites. So, we set up a photo shoot for all of Weston’s products! With the best lighting possible, we took multiple images for each product, including images from different angles and close-ups of product details.

STEP 6

Provide Detailed Product Information

A website without SEO is like a fishing line without bait. You won’t catch anything! We made it easy for Weston’s customers to make informed purchasing decisions by providing detailed product information. We made sure to include product descriptions, specifications, sizing, and customisation information.

STEP 7

Optimise The Checkout Process

The checkout process on your website should be simple and easy to use, with clear calls to action that encourage customers to complete their purchases. On Weston’s website, we made sure to offer multiple payment options, including credit cards, Google Pay, PayPal, and various other payment methods, to make it as easy as possible for customers to buy.

After setting sail on their new online system, our intrepid crew’s next port of call was to hook this up to Weston’s Instagram and Facebook shopping platforms. But that’s not all—there’s so much more to this exciting journey, and we can’t wait to share it with you in our NEXT blog post – coming soon!
